HUM ships a full two-way SMS platform on the same numbers you use for voice. Conversations are persistent, opt-out aware, MMS-capable, and can be handled by the AI, a human in the inbox, or your own backend.
Conversations, not loose messages
Every (your number, contact number) pair is a single long-lived thread. Closing a conversation never deletes history — if the contact texts again, the thread reopens automatically with full context.
The Messages inbox
Messages is a team inbox for texting:
- Threads are listed with unread counts, the last message, and who owns them.
- Assign threads to teammates, snooze them, or close them when resolved.
- Send replies as a human at any time — even on AI-driven threads. Taking over pauses the AI so you never talk over each other; resume it when you're done.
- Send and receive pictures (MMS) where carrier support allows.
Scheduling
Outbound texts can be sent now or scheduled. Sends outside your organization's business hours are automatically deferred to the next open window — see Compliance & Quiet Hours.
AI texting
Attach an SMS agent to a number and inbound texts get answered automatically — see SMS AI Agents. During voice calls, agents can also text the caller things like scheduling links (with the caller's spoken consent, capped per call).
Templates
Save reusable message templates for the replies your team sends most, and insert them in a tap from the inbox composer.
